I am a proud member of: ASHI - American Society of Home Inspectors.
ASHI membership requires a minimum of 250 fee paid inspections, successful completion of the national home inspectors exam, review of reports by a Review Committee, and annual continuing education credits.
By contrast, MD State licensure did not require any of these when the law was put into effect in 2008. Throughout most of 2008, requirements were limited to completion of a 40 hour class, general liability insurance and a $400 check to the State. As of 2013 t regulations require a 72 hour class and passing the National Home Inspectors Exam and continuing education credits.
Approximately 400 inspectors were granted licenses through a Grandfathering provision which recognized experience and time in the profession. Another 800-900 new inspectors were granted licenses under the lax 2008 guidelines.
Clearly it can be seen that ASHI membership is a more valuable measure of an inspector's experience and knowledge.
Let an ASHI Home Inspector Perform Your Home Inspection The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), founded in 1976, is North America's oldest and largest professional society of home inspectors. ASHI's goals have always been to build customer awareness of the importance of a quality home inspection and enhance the professionalism of home inspectors.
